University of Western Ontario

Founded in 1878, Western University’s academic excellence and vision of top-class research set foot in 1881, when this research-intensive public university opened its doors to students for the first time. Initially, the university made its debut in four faculties- Arts, Divinity, Law, and Medicine. Western has now grown to accommodate 12 faculties offering more than 400 combinations of undergraduate programs along with 120 professional and graduate programs. Western today has three affiliated university colleges; King’s University College, Brescia University College, and Huron University College.

Located in London, south-western Ontario, Western University comprises highly-qualified faculty members. The team of faculty members also includes experts from relevant industries. Further, eminent professors from different universities across the globe visit the campus for offering special lectures. The campus has hi-tech laboratories, art studios, libraries, and computer centers supporting best-in-class learning. The university maintains academic collaborations with universities and institutes across the world for student exchange and study abroad programs. Western's Admission Scholarship Program

To recognize and reward the outstanding academic achievements of our incoming high school students, Western offers the following admission scholarships:

Western Scholarship of Excellence

Worth of Award: 250 scholarships at $8000 each ($6,000 in the first year, plus $2,000 for an optional study abroad experience.)

Average Required: Top high school admission average.

Western Scholarship of Distinction

Worth of Award: $3,500 each ($2,500 in first year, plus $1,000 for optional study abroad experience). Unlimited number.

Average Required: Final admission average of 92.0% to 100.0%.

Western Admission Scholarship

Worth of Award: $2,500 each ($1,500 in first year, plus $1,000 for optional study abroad experience). Unlimited number.

Average Required: Final admission average of 90.0% to 91.9%.

National Scholarship Program

National Scholarships are designed to recognize all-around excellence. They are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic performance to candidates who demonstrate the ability for creative and innovative thought and a passion for the pursuit of learning. National Scholarships also recognize exceptional achievement in extracurricular activities such as the arts and athletics. A special emphasis is placed on a candidate's commitment to community service through ongoing contributions to school and community life.

President’s Entrance Scholarships

1 at $70,000 ($25,000 for year one, $15,000 annually for years two to four)
4 at $65,000 ($20,000 for year one, $15,000 annually for years two to four) and;
Up to 15 at $50,000 ($20,000 for year one, $10,000 annually for years two to four)

Beryl Ivey Continuing Entrance Scholarship

ONE at $72,000; payable $18,000 per academic year for a period of four years.

International President's Entrance Scholarships

3 at $50,000 ($20,000 for year one, $10,000 annually for years two to four)

Faculty Entrance Scholarships

Up to 15 at $30,000 ($12,000 for year one, $6,000 annually for years two to four)

National Scholarship Study Abroad Awards

Up to 39 at $2,500 for up to 4 months (one term), $5,000 for over 4 months (more than one term)

National Merit Awards

Those students who are interviewed for a National Scholarship but not offered a National Scholarship or a Schulich Leader Scholarship and accepting an offer of admission to the main campus will receive a one-year National Merit Award valued at $2,000. Recipients will also retain eligibility for an Admission Scholarship ranging in value from $2,500 to $8,000.

Medicine & Dentistry Schulich Scholarships

Schulich Scholarships are awarded to students entering the first year of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) program based on academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. These scholarships will continue for up to four years provided that recipients progress satisfactorily and continue to demonstrate financial need each year.

These scholarships were established by Seymour Schulich to help ensure that students who want to enter Western's Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) programs receive the financial assistance they need.

Medical Scholarships

  • Total Value of $112,000.
  • Payable $28,000 per academic year continuing, provided that recipients progress satisfactorily and continue to demonstrate financial need each year. Recipients will receive renewal information each spring/summer.
  • The number of scholarships varies each year.

Method of Application

To be considered for a Medical Schulich Scholarship student must complete an Admission Bursary Application and must submit the Schulich Scholarship Supplemental Application.
